Campaign themes

2014

Meyers' campaign website listed the following issues:[3]

  • Economy: "Main Street, however, continues to struggle. The Republican theory of trickle down economics has not worked as promised. Extraordinary tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans and for corporations have not led to an increase in jobs. Consequently, many Coloradans are still experiencing their own personal recession. According to the U.S. Census, about 1 out of every 12 people in CD4 live in poverty."
  • Social Security: "Since 1935, Social Security has kept generations of retired and disabled Americans, including disabled combat veterans, from living in poverty. Social Security is one of our nation’s most popular and most important programs. As your Congressman, I will fight to preserve the integrity of Social Security."
  • Infrastructure: "If Colorado is to remain competitive – if America is to remain competitive – we must have an infrastructure that can support our population and our economic activity. We cannot continue to reap the benefits of what our parents and grandparents built for us without taking on the responsibility of maintaining that infrastructure."
  • Veterans: "Being a U.S. Army veteran and coming from a long line of military veterans, I can’t help but be disgusted with how this Congress is failing our service men and women today."
  • Immigration: "Our current immigration policies are not working. Instead of solving the problem, Washington politicians have used immigration to divide Americans. As your Congressman, I will work for immigration reform that respects the dignity of workers and their families while recognizing the economic realities of Eastern Colorado."
