An effort to recall Dawes County District 2 Commissioner Vic Rivera in Nebraska was initiated in 2023. To get the recall on the ballot, recall supporters needed to collect the signatures of at least 207 registered voters within 30 days of the recall petition's approval.[1] The recall effort failed when supporters failed to collect the minimum number of signatures by the deadline.[2]
Recall supporters
Supporters of the recall stated that Rivera should be removed from office for “mismanagement of operations of District 2, interfering with relationships with present and past employees, and dereliction of duties."[3]
Recall opponents
Rivera dismissed recall supporters' arguments as false and unfounded. He argued that the recall supporters lack understanding of county commissioners' duties and powers, noting that the county road superintendent is responsible for managing operations while commissioners set the budget.[3]
