Vicinage is a term specific to New Jersey. The New Jersey Superior Courts, which are the state's trial courts, are grouped into 15 smaller vicinages.[1][2] Other states use terms like "district" or "circuit" in a similar way that "vicinage" is used in New Jersey.

The legal definition of a vicinage is: "The area where a crime was committed, a trial is being held, or the community from which jurors are drawn."[3]
