2016

Kraft's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Jobs and Economy

  • In order for our economy to thrive in Washington, we need to reduce the amount of regulations and taxes on our business community. Government has placed too many burdens on businesses in our state which reduces the amount of innovation, productivity and ultimately jobs. We have well over 200 regulations placed on our businesses.* We need to remove barriers to entry for small businesses especially and make it attractive for businesses to start and grow in Washington.

Fiscal Responsibility

  • The government needs to live within its means and budget just like the rest of us do. All too often as soon as more revenue seems to be required in Olympia, the first answer looked to is almost always to increase taxes. Instead, we should look to the budget and the state agencies to ask what the real priorities are, what can we do without, and how can we get more for our money. These are the hard choices we have to make with our personal budgets as citizens and it’s what businesses must do with their budgets or they’ll likely go out of business. Increasing taxes and essentially taking money out of our neighbors pockets should be the last resort–not the first.

Education

  • Through my business experience, working with Washington K-12 School Districts across the state, I’ve seen the importance of having more local control vs. state or federal-level control. I’ve also worked in instructional technology, working with teachers to help them develop and deliver curriculum content for their students in the classroom. Parents and local school districts know best the needs of their students, what it will take to address the learning opportunities and challenges, and implement custom solutions designed for those needs.

Transportation

  • There has never been a greater need to reduce congestion and improve freight mobility on our local highways in Clark County. We must work together as a bi-state, bi-partisan group to determine a viable bridge solution, or two, from Clark County to the Portland area.

Public Safety

  • We must promote public safety through proper planning and resources to protect citizens and equip first responders. Our Washington State Patrol must be equipped to do their jobs and ideally reflect the diversity of the communities around them. It’s important that those who commit crimes are held responsible in accordance with the law, and there are enough prepared first responders who can adequately handle these unforeseen incidents and crimes.[5]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Washington

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states. To contribute to the list of Washington scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
