I am a father, husband, Navy combat veteran, Latino, and a resident of Central Park for over two decades. I had the distinguished honor of serving this great nation for 22 years.

When my military service ended, I continued to serve my community. I became the President of Giffords Gun Owners for Safety Colorado chapter, a gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

I testified in favor of common sense gun safety laws at the Colorado State Capitol and the U.S. Congress. I stood up to corrupt politicians who would rather engage in partisan politics than save lives.
  • Quality Education and Safer Schools-I'm dedicated to ensuring equitable, quality education for all Colorado children, irrespective of their background. This means investing more in schools, supporting teachers with competitive salaries and professional development, and prioritizing children's holistic well-being, including mental health services in schools. School safety is paramount, and I advocate for evidence-based measures, respect, and sensible gun legislation to protect our students and educators. In our rapidly changing world, I'm committed to integrating technology in the classroom, teaching digital literacy, and ensuring equal access to tech resources for all students. I
  • Accessibility and Investment in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services- As an Iraq War combat veteran who has faced mental health challenges and witnessed my child's battle with addiction during the Opiate crisis, I am deeply committed to prioritizing accessible mental health and substance abuse services in our state. Every Coloradan deserves access to the care they need. We must remove healthcare system barriers and shift towards a focus on treatment and support, not punitive measures. I advocate for eliminating mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines obstructing our ability to provide appropriate care. It's time to act for the well-being of every individual in Colorado..
  • Assault Weapons Ban and Firearm Licensing-Drawing on my experience as a combat veteran, I advocate for an assault weapons ban and comprehensive firearm licensing. I've witnessed the devastation these weapons can cause and firmly believe they have no place in civilian society. Responsible firearm ownership, through proper vetting and training, enhances community safety without infringing on Second Amendment rights. We must limit access to assault weapons and implement sensible gun laws to prevent tragedies. Balancing constitutional rights and public safety is crucial. Through open dialogue and collaboration, we can ensure a safer future for all Coloradans.

Community Safety and Police Accountability
I look up to Gabby Giffords and Senator Mark Kelly for several compelling reasons. Gabby Giffords, despite surviving a tragic shooting, has shown incredible resilience and determination in her advocacy for gun control and safer communities. Her courage in adversity and commitment to reducing gun violence is truly inspiring.

Senator Mark Kelly, as a former astronaut and Navy captain, brings a wealth of experience in leadership and problem-solving to his role in the Senate. His dedication to science, innovation, and addressing critical issues like climate change and healthcare align with my values and priorities.

Together, they represent a powerful team that embodies both personal strength and a shared commitment to making positive changes in our society. Their work to bridge political divides and find common-sense solutions to complex problems is a model of effective and moral leadership that I aspire to follow.

The qualities and principles most important for an elected official include integrity, transparency, empathy, and a solid commitment to public service. Integrity ensures honesty and ethical conduct, building trust with constituents. Transparency fosters openness in decision-making, allowing for accountability and public participation. Empathy enables a deep understanding of diverse community needs and concerns. Additionally, a dedication to public service, humility, resilience, and a willingness to collaborate are essential for effective leadership. Ultimately, an elected official should be guided by a genuine desire to improve the lives of their constituents and the betterment of society as a whole.

I possess a diverse array of qualities that I believe would enable me to be a successful officeholder. Foremost among these is integrity, which is the bedrock of my commitment to unwavering honesty, transparency, and ethical governance. Empathy is another cornerstone of my leadership style, as I strive to deeply understand the diverse needs and concerns of my community, ensuring that the policies I advocate for genuinely benefit all residents. I also hold dear honorable characteristics like humility, which keeps me grounded and open to feedback; resilience, which helps me navigate challenges with grace and dedication; and a tireless work ethic, ensuring that I always put in the necessary effort to serve my constituents effectively. Additionally, my commitment to collaboration and inclusivity ensures that I value and incorporate diverse voices from all corners of the community, leading to policies that promote unity and progress. Ultimately, I aim to blend these qualities into a harmonious symphony of leadership dedicated to serving the public good and leaving a legacy of positive change.
The core responsibilities of an elected official encompass representing their constituents' interests, crafting and passing legislation, providing constituent services, overseeing budgets, advocating for policies, building community relationships, ensuring accountability, making informed decisions, effective public communication, and upholding ethical conduct. These responsibilities are vital to effective governance and serving the best interests of the community.
I aspire to etch a profound legacy marked by unwavering resilience, boundless empathy, and transformative change. My life of service and advocacy for gun violence prevention and universal equality encapsulates a dedication to fostering a world where compassion reigns supreme, where the scourge of gun violence is subdued, and where every individual, irrespective of their background, stands on equal footing. My legacy is a testament to the enduring pursuit of a brighter, fairer, and safer world for all.
I was 12 years old when the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster occurred on January 28, 1986. The Challenger space shuttle disintegrated 73 seconds after liftoff, leading to the tragic loss of all seven crew members, including schoolteacher Christa McAuliffe.
I worked at the HamberStand in Aurora, Colorado. I was 14.5 years old and had the job for over two years. The Original Hamburger Stand dates back to 1982.

Invisible Storm -Jason Kander

Rules for a Knight- Ethan Hawke
Struggling with mental health challenges, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), has been a significant part of my life journey. As a combat veteran, I've faced the emotional toll of my experiences, including overmedication. My life journey has taken me on a path of healing and growth, seeking support and sharing my experiences to help others on their journeys to mental well-being.
The ideal relationship between a governor and state legislature should be cooperation, communication, and checks and balances. Both branches must work together for the benefit of the state, respecting their roles and adhering to the rule of law. Their primary focus should be the public good, and they must be accountable to the citizens they serve.
Over the next decade, our state's greatest challenges include affordable housing, earnable wages, social equality, and justice reform. We must prioritize policies that address these issues and work collaboratively to create a more equitable and just future for all residents.
I believe that previous experience in government or politics is not necessarily beneficial for state legislators. Our democracy thrives when representatives bring fresh ideas from the people. The State Representative is a two-year term to ensure a continuous influx of new perspectives.
Yes, building relationships with fellow legislators is crucial. We're here to serve all, regardless of political affiliations. Despite differences, cooperation is critical for the greater good of our communities.
I admire Martin Luther King Jr., whose advocacy for civil rights and unwavering commitment to nonviolent protest made him a transformative figure in American history.

Barack Obama inspires me, the 44th President of the United States, known for his eloquence, diplomacy, and accomplishments such as healthcare reform.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg's dedication to gender equality and civil rights, despite being a Supreme Court Justice rather than a legislator, left a lasting legacy that resonates with me.

John Lewis, a civil rights icon and U.S. Congressman is another source of inspiration for his unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and nonviolent protest.

Additionally, I'm drawn to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a current U.S. House of Representatives member, for her progressive policies and grassroots approach to politics.

Each of these leaders embodies qualities and values that I believe are important for effective public service and making a positive impact on society.

A single mother of two, faced homelessness after losing her job. Seeking help, she encountered bureaucratic hurdles and strict eligibility criteria for assistance programs, leaving her frustrated and feeling the system wasn't designed to help people like her.
Ultimately, the choice between oversight and granting emergency powers should be made carefully considering the legal framework, historical context, and the need for effective crisis management while safeguarding democratic principles and protecting individual rights.
Compromise in policymaking is crucial for a functioning democracy. It ensures that policies represent a broad spectrum of views and needs. When one party dominates, it can lead to policies that favor a limited set of interests, leaving many unrepresented. Compromise fosters collaboration, reduces polarization, and results in more balanced policies. It doesn't mean giving up principles but finding common ground for the greater good. In a democracy, diversity of perspectives should be valued, and compromise is the key to achieving that.
The first bill you would introduce as an elected official would ideally align with the priorities and needs of your constituents and reflect your campaign promises and policy platform. The specific bill would depend on the level of government you are elected to (local, state, or national) and the pressing issues facing your community.
