Three of the seven seats on the Victoria Independent School District board of trustees were up for by-district general election on May 7, 2016. The seats of District 1 incumbent Kevin VanHook and District 7 incumbent Michael DiSanto did not appear on the ballot due to lack of opposition. Both incumbents were automatically re-elected to additional terms. The race for the open District 6 seat featured candidates Micah Hatley and Margaret Pruett. Pruett defeated Hatley to win a seat on the board. There was no primary.[1][2]

Voter and candidate information
The Victoria ISD Board of Trustees is composed of seven members who are elected by district to three-year terms in specifically numbered seats. Candidates file to run for a specific seat, but all voters in the school district are eligible to vote for every seat up for election. Districts 1, 6, and 7were scheduled for general election on May 7, 2016. There was no primary election.[3]
Candidates running for the school board had to be a United States citizen, a resident of Texas for at least 12 months, and a resident of the district for at least six months. Candidates also had to be 18 years of age or older and registered to vote.[3]
