Victoria Lipnic is the commissioner for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, a federal agency that enforces the numerous anti-discrimination laws throughout the country. During the period of transition between the Obama and Trump administrations, Lipnic was reported to be in consideration for a high-level appointment in the Trump administration. Career
Early career
In the 1980s, Victoria Lipnic began her career under Ronald Reagan as a special assistant for business liaison to former U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Malcolm Baldrige.[1] Lipnic then served the U.S. Postal Service for six years as an in-house attorney on issues regarding labor and employment.[1] Shortly thereafter, she served the U.S. House as the Workforce Policy Counsel for the Republican-led members of the Committee on Education and the Workforce.[1]

Between 2002 and 2009, Victoria Lipnic was the assistant secretary of labor for employment standards for the U.S. Department of Labor under George W. Bush.[3][1][4] She was tasked with overseeing the "Wage and Hour Division, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance programs, the Office of Workers' Compensation programs, and the Office of Labor Management Standards."[1]
While with the Department of Labor, Lipnic worked on revising overtime regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the Family and Medical Leave Act regulations for the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP).[3]
Legal career
In 2009, Lipnic joined the Washington, D.C.-based legal firm, Seyfarth Shaw LLP. Her area of expertise with the firm was in employment law and policy.[1][3]

Lipnic has been a commissioner with the EEOC since 2010. She had been appointed to the position by President Barack Obama (D).[5] Her term as commissioner ended in 2015, but Obama re-appointed her for a second term, which the U.S. Senate confirmed.[1]
