Vijay Chand "Jay" Gandhi was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California.[1] Gandhi was the first Indian American federal judge in California history. He was first appointed to the court on April 14, 2010.[2]

Early life and education

Judge Ghandi earned his B.A. with honors from the California State University at Fullerton in 1994. He later earned his J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School in 1997.[3]

Career

Judge Ghandi started his law career as an associate at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP in 1998. He worked there until 2010, and was eventually promoted to litigation partner. He also served as a volunteer deputy district attorney for the Orange County District Attorney's Office in 2004.[3]

Ghandi began his legal career as a law clerk for federal Judge Kenneth Hoyt of the Southern District of Texas.[4]

Awards and associations

Prior to joining the court, Gandhi was a member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. He also sat on the Board of Governors for the Federal Bar Association.[4]
