Vincent Leibell (New York legislator)
Vincent Leibell (b. August 6, 1946) is a former Republican member of the New York State Senate, representing District 40 from 1995 to 2010.
Leibell served in the New York State Assembly from 1983 to 1994. In 1991, he was assistant minority leader pro tempore. He was also a member of the Republican Assembly Campaign Committee from 1992 to 1994.
Biography
Leibell earned his B.A. in economics from Saint John's University, his J.D. from Saint John's University, and his M.P.A. from New York University in 1983. Leibell's professional experience includes working as assistant district attorney for Westchester County, county attorney for Putnam County, and Associate Counsel for the New York State Senate. He served as a lieutenant commander in the United States Naval Reserve and has been a rear admiral in the New York Naval Militia since 2001.[1]

Noteworthy events
Tax evasion
In May 2011, Leibell was sentenced to 21 months in prison and three years of supervised release for pleading guilty to obstruction of justice and tax evasion. During the trial, Leibell sent the judge in the case a letter offering to serve as a diplomat to the Middle East instead of going to prison. He did not receive the position.[4]
