Three of the nine seats on the Vineland Public Schools school board were up for at-large general election on November 8, 2016. Incumbent F. John Sbrana, Nicholas Fiocchi, and Eugene Medio won the three seats up for election by defeating Anthony Scott, Jean Smith, Edward Morvay, R. Alan Mounier, Michelle Cruz, and Cedric Holmes.[1]

Voter and candidate information
The Vineland school board consists of nine members elected to three-year terms at large by the district as a whole. Elections are staggered with three seats up for election each year. The general election was held on November 8, 2016. There was no primary election.[2]
Candidates for the school board must be 18 years old and registered to vote. They must have resided within the district for at least one year prior to their election or appointment. Candidates cannot concurrently hold office as mayor or as a member of the governing body of a municipality within the district. Board members cannot have been convicted of a felony. There are no term limits.[2]

The Vineland school district is located in Cumberland County in southern New Jersey. The county seat is Bridgeton. Cumberland County was home to 155,854 residents in 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau.[7] The district was the 17th-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 9,975 students.[8]
Demographics
Cumberland County underperformed compared to New Jersey as a whole in terms of education achievement from 2010 to 2014. The United States Census Bureau found that 13.8 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 36.4 percent of all state residents. The median household income for Ocean County was $50,603, compared to the statewide average of $72,062. The poverty rate for the county was 19.5 percent, while it was 10.8 percent statewide.[9]
