The 9th Congressional District of Virginia held an election for the U.S. House of Representatives on November 8, 2016.
Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as safely Republican. Incumbent Morgan Griffith (R) defeated Derek Kitts (D) and Janice Allen Boyd (I) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Kitts defeated Bill Bunch at the Democratic convention on May 21, 2016.[4][5]

Virginia's 9th Congressional District is located in the western portion of the state and includes Alleghany, Bland, Buchanan, Carroll, Craig, Dickenson, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Lee, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, and Wythe counties. Portions of Henry and Roanoke counties and all of Bristol city, Covington city, Galax city, Martinsville city, Norton city, Radford city, and Salem city are also included in the district.[8]
