September 21, 2012
By Maureen Ryland
MCLEAN, Virginia: US Senatorial candidates Tim Kaine and George Allen debated before the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce this week.[1] Both candidates used the debate as a chance to talk about their favorite issues.[2]
Kaine, the Democratic candidate, called for bipartisanship and condemned Mitt Romney's recent remarks about the 47 percent as "divisive." George Allen focused his remarks on the economy, citing his record as a job-creating governor. Both candidates are former governors of Virginia, and George Allen is a former US senator, serving from 2000 to 2006. This closely contested race is one of a few that will determine which party takes control of the Senate in November.
