Ballotpedia survey responses
Viswanathan submitted the following campaign themes through Ballotpedia’s biographical information submission form:
“ | As Treasurer, my top priority is to protect taxpayer dollars from corporate and special interests, and to keep the state fiscally strong so California can achieve a progressive agenda on:
1. Making public colleges and universities free for all Californians. 2. Building more housing and investing in infrastructure across the state. 3. Ensuring that every Californian retires with security and dignity. I’m running for office to bring ambitious, new ideas to the table; to champion a progressive agenda; and to eliminate big money in politics so elected leaders can focus on tackling the real problems that face Californians. I’m pushing to give every baby born in California a college savings account with an upfront investment from the state; to refinance student debt for borrowers who have taken out private loans; to enact public financing for all state-level campaigns; and to eliminate California’s mortgage-interest deduction for second homes and use the new revenue to help working families afford their first home. Read more about my ten big ideas for California’s future here on my website. (https://www.vivekforca.com/platform) I am the only Democratic candidate in the Treasurer’s race not taking any corporate, PAC, or special interest money: 'I’m not your typical candidate. Political insiders tell me that it’s all about the money – I think they’re wrong. I’m running to show that someone like me can win without a dime of corporate or special interest money. And I’m running to show the people of California that your voice and your ideas actually matter.' (Press Release: https://www.vivekforca.com/press-release-03-2018) … I am running 500 miles across California, on foot, to take my campaign directly to the people. My run starts in Sacramento. I will make my way through the Central Valley where I’m spending most of my time, and eventually end up in San Diego. I am pacing at a half-marathon each day, covering every inch of this 500-mile journey on foot. I’m visiting over 60 towns, and I will hold town halls and meet with voters to discuss both the issues facing their communities and the solutions. [2] |
