Born and raised in San Francisco, I love residing in the City of Saratoga (23 years) where I live with my husband, Bernie Mills, and where we raised my five children - Caleb (28 now married to Earnly), Tabitha (26), Carissa (24), Samantha (19) & Luke (17). I am soon to be a grandmother of one. I have been an educator in my community for 26 years, possess a Masters in Education & Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UCLA. I am currently active in my community volunteering at City Team in a variety of services from mentoring young women from House of Grace to regularly doing food distribution for impoverished or at-risk families in Santa Clara County. I also volunteer for Second Harvest Food Bank distributing food at West Valley College. I serve as director of the children’s music program at my church as well as teach women’s Bible study. I am on the Associate Board of Directors for Joni n Friends - supporting and serving the community of families with special needs and disabilities - I head the Gathering Committee on this board. I am also a volunteer as a CERT member (Community Emergency Response Team for Saratoga area working with first responders).

I love music, singing, dancing, playing a variety of instruments, hosting in my home, watching movies with my entire family, and I enjoy coordinating special fundraising events for my favorite charities. Most of all I love spending time with family and friends around food and fellowship.

  • Focus on Student Achievement. Encourage parents to demand our schools set academic goals for each student then report and celebrate their achievements.
  • Advocate for the rights of parents taking back control over the education of their children.
  • I want to pursue better practices of improving school safety.
I want to improve the quality of education for our children by focusing on student achievement. Parents, not schools or teacher unions, have more say in curriculum and what goes on in the classrooms. Promoting a learning environment that is conducive to thriving in the traditional areas of studies. Also discouraging bullying and any unwholesome thing that parents would deem unacceptable behavior or teaching. Schools should be in the business of teaching reading, writing, arithmetic and science - and not indoctrinating or promulgating ideology contrary to what is being taught at home. I would like to see improvement in the area of aiding families with disabilities and learning challenges within our student body.

And finally, I want to pursue better practices of improving school safety. I would like to have our school resource officers to train our staff and be present more often at our schools. I want to have our community view our local law enforcement officers as guardians of our community - so that our families should feel their children are safe at school.
