Voter registration and filing deadlines approaching for New York
ALBANY, New York:
With separate primaries for Congress and the state legislature, there are a lot of election-related dates to keep track of this year in New York.
Date | Event |
---|---|
June 12 | Signature filing deadline for Congressional elections |
June 26 | Congressional primary elections |
July 12 | Signature filing deadline for state legislative elections |
September 11 | State legislative primary elections |
November 6 | General election for all offices |
Two key deadlines are approaching for voters and potential candidates in the Empire State.
- Tomorrow, June 1st, is the last day to register to vote in the Congressional primary election. New York is one of 21 states that uses a strictly closed primary system. In order to be eligible to vote in the June 26th primary election, voters must, by law, be registered 25 days before the primary takes place.[1]
- Candidates seeking election to one of the 28 Congressional seats up for election in New York this year have until June 12th to file their candidacy and submit the requisite number of signatures.
More information about how to register to vote is available on the New York State Board of Elections' website.
