W. Allen Cobb, Jr.
W. Allen Cobb, Jr. is a former senior resident superior court judge for the Second Division of the Superior Court, 5th Judicial District, serving New Hanover, and Pender counties in North Carolina.[1] Cobb was appointed to the court by former Governor Jim Hunt in 1993 and was re-elected in 1994, 2002, and 2010. He became the senior resident judge in 2007.[2] On July 18, 2016, Cobb announced his retirement from the court effective on August 21, 2016.[3]
Education
Cobb received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1974 and his J.D. from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 1978. He was admitted to practice law in North Carolina in 1978.[2]
Career
Prior to joining the Second Division of the Superior Court, 5th Judicial District in 1993, Cobb served as a district court judge for the 5th Judicial District from 1990 until 1993. Before he became a judge, Cobb was an attorney in private practice, most recently with the firm of Sperry and Cobb in Wilmington.[2]
2010 election
Cobb was re-elected after running unopposed.[4]

Federal judgeship nomination
Cobb was one of three nominations to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina made by Senator Kay Hagan to President Obama in July of 2009.[5][6]
