I am an experienced attorney and community leader. Professionally, I am in private practice at Stevens & Lee, P.C., where I primarily litigate employment discrimination cases in federal and state courts, and governmental agencies; and advise clients on labor and employment law compliance to ensure that they do not discriminate against their employees or violate their rights. I also practice election and zoning law.

In the past, I practiced law at Sidkoff, Pincus & Green, P.C., a boutique plaintiff-side firm, where I successfully represented clients in employment discrimination, civil rights, and commercial litigation.

Before that, I clerked for the Honorable Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro and the Honorable Sandra Mazer Moss, both in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.

Over the years I have been involved in many organizations, political action committees, and causes that seek to advance equality and improve the community in Philadelphia. Among other things, I served as President of the Center City Residents' Association (CCRA), Vice Chair of the Philadelphia Crosstown Coalition, Chair of the Endorsement Committee of the Liberty City LGBTQ+ Democratic Club, as a member of the board of the Philly Set Go, and as a member of the Advisory Board of the PA Blue Victory Fund.
  • As a gay man, I understand that discrimination has no place in a courtroom. All people must be equal before the law. There is no justice when the rich are treated more favorably than the poor, or if anyone is treated differently on account of their race, ethnicity, sex, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability status, family connections, or job title.
  • I believe that each person is more than a designation like “defendant” or “plaintiff” or “witness.” When any individual steps into the courtroom, they bring their life experiences with them. Each person is entitled to dignity, respect, and the chance to have their voice heard.
  • I support criminal justice reform. This includes support for diversionary programs for non-violent offenders. I also support court ordered interventions that seek to help the victims of drug addiction to recover and become productive members of society.
As an employment law attorney, I know firsthand how a criminal record – even for minor, victimless drug crimes – can impact a person’s ability to get a job, earn a living wage, and obtain housing.

For the last several years, I have volunteered at and run expungement clinics throughout the City. I have prepared and filed hundreds of expungement petitions, and successfully litigated a number of pardon petitions before the Pennsylvania Board of Pardons. Through this work, I have been able to help countless people clear their criminal records and obtain a second chance.

In 2019, the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, Criminal Trial Division, awarded me the Pro Bono Publico work for my work handling expungement petitions for low-income Philadelphians. This award is given to only one attorney, law firm, or legal aid organization each year.
My very first job was working at my local McDonald's at 16, during the summer between my sophomore and junior years of high school.
My favorite book is probably "The Death and Life of Great American Cities" by Jane Jacobs. It helped me realize how all the moving parts in our society impact the vitality of our neighborhoods, and that we need strong, civically-engaged communities to have a functioning city. Before reading this book, I had always loved living in Philadelphia, but I was not fully able to explain why. After reading the book, I understood: our diversity is our greatest strength and it is what allows Philadelphia to thrive.
One of my role models is Sonia Sotomayor because she overcame so much adversity in her youth to ultimately become the leading progressive voice on the U.S. Supreme Court. And just as important to me, even though she is one of the most influential people in American government right now, she is humble with a wicked sense of humor.
I believe that it is extremely important for judges to have empathy. Aristotle is credited with saying that the law is reason free from passion. However, law absent empathy is simply cruel.
I am rated "recommended" by the Philadelphia Bar Association.
