Gent ran for election to the 86th District Court.
Primary: He was successful in the Republican primary on March 4, 2014, receiving 35.1 percent of the vote. He competed against Raymond Shackelford, Rebecca Calabria and Casey Blair.
Runoff: Because no candidate received more than 50% of the vote, Gent faced Blair in a runoff election on May 27, 2014. Gent was defeated, receiving 42% of the vote.
