Efforts to recall Mayor Wade Harper in Antioch, California from his position was launched in January 2015.[1] The recall did not go to a vote because supporters did not turn in a sufficient number of signatures.[2]

Recall supporters

Harper is targeted for recall by resident Rich Buongiorno, who claimed the mayor has not lived up to campaign promises of a decreased crime rate. "He made a promise that he would bring crime down, but since he has been on the City Council and mayor, crime has gone up," said Buongiorno.[1]

Recall opponents

In a brief statement legally limited to 200 words, Harper stated that reducing crime is still his top priority and pointed out that he had sworn in ten new officers since November 2013.[3]

The recall petition was approved for circulation on January 20. Supporters until June 8 to gather 9,000 signatures in order to move the recall forward.[1]
