Biography

Wade Kiefer earned a bachelor's degree in political science with minors in strategic studies, philosophy, and leadership and public service from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2015. He graduated from a five-year electrical training program in 2020. His professional experience includes working as an electrician. He is affiliated with IBEW 124.[1]

I grew up in a strong union home just off A Highway and graduated from Kearney High School. Like many parents in Northland, mine wanted their kids to go to college so they don't have to struggle and fight for their jobs like many of us have. I was fortunate enough to then attend the University of Missouri - Columbia. I graduated with a BA and I have my father's union job to thank for that. Like many graduates, I soon realized that the jobs I wanted were not there and I was stuck with nothing but an expensive piece of paper. I quickly followed my father's foot steps and joined IBEW 124 becoming a 4th generation member. I bought a home in Smithville soon after and found myself becoming involved in the community because I knew our jobs and our rights have to be fought for. It's that same conviction, and seeing the failed leadership in Jefferson City, that motivated me to run for state representative.

My campaign is based on three major issues: workers' rights, education, and healthcare. I know how hard it is making decisions on the job that require you to choose between being a good union member and staying employed to keep your family fed. As a school board member in Smithville, I have gained intimate knowledge on the many difficulties school districts encounter in trying to provide a world-class education to their students. Every time the state legislature gives tax cuts (the ones we don't get, because we aren't millionaires) the budget falls short and education spending is cut. To make up that difference school districts have to raise property taxes on the working-class and on fixed-income seniors. Lastly; it seems like every time I get a raise a part of that raise has to go to my health insurance, and I know many of you live the same story. Our state has to develop a real policy for lowering healthcare costs and especially for making sure our tax dollars are spent responsibly here, and not shipped off to other states.
