Primary: He faced Paul H. Senzer, Jim Matthews, Patricia Grant Flynn and incumbents Steve Hackeling and Paul Hensley in the primary on September 9, 2014. Long cross-filed, but lost in the Conservative, Working Families and Independence party primaries with 13.4%, 0.6% and 13.4% of the votes, respectively. Long is running on the Republican and Green Party line in the general election.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 14.1 percent of the vote. He competed against Paul H. Senzer, Jim Matthews, Patricia Grant Flynn, and incumbents Steve Hackeling and Paul Hensley for three open seats.
