Walter F. Timpone is a former justice on the New Jersey Supreme Court, serving from 2016 to 2020. He was appointed by Governor Chris Christie in April 2016.[1] He was confirmed by the New Jersey State Senate on April 25, 2016, and sworn in on June 2.[2][3] His appointment ended wrangling between the governor and the state legislature over the seat, which had stood vacant since 2010.[4][5]

Timpone retired on August 31, 2020, 10 weeks before his mandatory retirement date of November 10, to allow his senate-confirmed replacement Fabiana Pierre-Louis to join the bench for the September court session.[6] To learn more about this vacancy, click here.

Career

Timpone spent his early career in private practice. He joined the U.S. Attorney's Office in 1984, serving as the chief of special prosecutions until 1995. He then returned to private practice as a partner with McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney and Carpenter, LLP.[7]
