Walter Hoffman
Walter Edward Hoffman (1907-1996) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.[1]
Hoffman was nominated by President Dwight Eisenhower on June 29, 1954, to a new seat created by 68 Stat. 8; he was confirmed by the Senate on July 14, 1954, and his received commission on July 15th. He served as chief judge from 1961-1973. He assumed senior status on September 3, 1974, and served in that capacity until his death on November 21, 1996.[1]
Hoffman was the 1983 recipient of the Edward J. Devitt Distinguished Service to Justice Award.[1]
