Walter J. Matthews is a former chief judge of the Rome Circuit in Georgia.[1] He was appointed to the court in 1988 by Governor Joe Frank Harris and became the chief judge in 2003. Matthews retired on September 1, 2016.[2]

Education

Matthews received his undergraduate degree from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. He went on to earn his J.D. there as well, and he was admitted to the bar in 1974.[3]
