Walter Mansfield
Walter Roe Mansfield (1911-1987) was a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit and the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He joined the Second Circuit in 1971 after an appointment from Richard Nixon. He joined the Southern District of New York in 1966 after an appointment from Lyndon Johnson. At the time of his appointment, he was a private practice attorney. He assumed senior status on July 2, 1981, and served in that capacity until his death on January 8, 1987.[1]

Judicial career
Second Circuit
Mansfield was nominated to the Second Circuit by President Richard Nixon on April 26, 1971, to a seat vacated by Leonard Moore; he was confirmed by the Senate on May 20, 1971, and received commission that very same day. He assumed senior status on July 2, 1981, and served in that capacity until his death on January 8, 1987.[1] He was succeeded to the post by Ralph Winter.
Southern District of New York
Mansfield was nominated to the Southern District of New York by President Lyndon Johnson on June 13, 1966, to a seat vacated by John Cashin; he was confirmed by the Senate on June 29, 1966, and received commission that same day. He served until his advancement to the Second Circuit on June 8, 1971. Mansfield was succeeded in this position by Percy Knapp.[1]
