Long ran for election to the Karnes County Court.
Primary: He was successful in the Democratic primary on March 4, 2014, receiving 66.8 percent of the vote. He competed against Barbara N. Shaw.
General: He defeated Maurice A. Yarter in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 67.8 percent of the vote. [2][3][4] 

Education

Long received a B.A. degree from the University of Texas at Austin, going on to earn his LL.B. there as well. He was admitted to the bar in 1961.[5]
