Walter Whetsell is a Republican political strategist from South Carolina. He was a senior advisor for South Carolina to Rick Perry's 2016 presidential campaign.[1] Whetsell is the founder of Starboard Communications, a public relations and marketing firm in Lexington, S.C.[2]
Career
Whetsell is the founder and owner of Starboard Communications, a public relations and marketing firm that specializes in "consulting and plan development, data/list acquisition and maintenance, complete creative and art services as well as in-house mail-shopping and fulfillment services."[3] According to Politico, "Whetsell is a well-regarded mail and phone consultant" who helped Jeff Duncan (R), Mick Mulvaney (R), and Tim Scott (R) get elected as first-time candidates in 2010.[4]
In the 2014 campaign cycle, Whetsell started West Main Street Values PAC, a super PAC in support of Sen. Lindsey Graham's (R-S.C.) re-election.[5]

On March 5, 2015, CNN reported that Walter Whetsell had joined RickPAC, Rick Perry's leadership PAC as a senior South Carolina advisor.[6] Perry announced his presidential run on June 4, 2015.[7] On June 8, 2015, Whetsell was announced as a senior advisor to Perry's South Carolina campaign itself.[8]
Perry suspended his presidential campaign on September 11, 2015.[9]
