Three of the five seats on the Warren County Public Schools Board of Education were up for by-district general election on November 8, 2016. Due to lack of opposition, the elections were canceled and did not appear on the ballot. District 1 incumbent Becky Evans, District 2 incumbent Don Basham, and District 4 incumbent Garry Chaffin were automatically re-elected to their seats.

The Warren County Board of Education consists of five members elected to four-year terms. Each member is elected to a specific geographic division. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on November 8, 2016.

The Warren County school board election shared the ballot with federal elections for President of the United States, United States Senate, and United States Representative. The statewide elections on the ballot included elections for the Kentucky State Senate, the Kentucky House of Representatives, and a seat on the Kentucky Supreme Court. No contributions or expenditures were reported during the election, according to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance.[5]
Candidates who raised or spent over $3,000 during the election cycle had to file all pre-election and post-election campaign finance reports. Those who raised or spent less than $3,000 were only required to file a 30-day post-election report, while those who raised or spent less than $1,000 did not have to file any reports.[6]

Warren County Public Schools is located in south-central Kentucky in Warren County. The county seat is Bowling Green. Warren County was home to 122,851 residents in 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau.[7] The district was the sixth-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 14,531 students.[8]
Demographics
Warren County outperformed Kentucky as a whole in terms of higher education achievement from 2010 to 2014. The United States Census Bureau found that 27.3 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 21.8 percent of state residents. The median household income for the county was $45,209, compared to $43,342 for the state. The percentage of people below poverty level for Warren County was 18.3 percent, while it was 18.5 percent for the state as a whole.[7]
