Campaign themes

2016

Judge's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Access to Jobs & Economic Development: Our State Leaders must create a variety of programs, incentives, and inducements that capitalize on the many assets that we have in House District 6. You deserve a Representative who knows the District and cares about its people who supports equal opportunity. That is why I dedicate myself to being your voice in Raleigh so that we can get our fair share of State resources and bring them home where they will do the most good – here in eastern North Carolina.

Access to Education: However, we need representation in Raleigh that will make sure we get our fair share of funding to help the children of House District 6 achieve their greatest potential. Right now we do not have enough experienced teachers and teachers’ assistants in our classrooms nor enough money allocated for resources needed such as text books both in print and digital for our classrooms. I will work passionately in the General Assembly to put education first from the Governor’s office, to the General Assembly, to our counties, cities, and towns.

Access to Roads, Bridges, Ferries, Waterways and Inlets: The conflict between rural and urban North Carolina has been most visible in our transportation system. The People of House District 6 must have adequate roads, highways and bridges to travel to work and to school. Additionally the Ferry System has been used for decades to provide access to jobs serving as a highway to work for hundreds of North Carolinians in lieu of bridges. Maintaining, expending and developing a comprehensive transportation network that will meet the needs of House District 6 is vital to maintain jobs and sustain a strong and vibrant economy for our region.

Access to Medical and Mental Health Care: The State of North Carolina, and the General Assembly needs to remove any road blocks to access to medical and mental health care facilities for all of our people. Every North Carolinian regardless of where he or she lives, should be able to have access to a health care facility that provides quality health care. I will work with the Governor, the legislature, and key health care stakeholders to provide to range of health care services that are need House District 6.

Access to Voting: Recently we have experienced the shortening of the early voting period. I support and will work to expand the days and hours of early voting, and to restore the early registration of our young people who are 17. What better way to get our young people involved in the Democratic process than to register and prepare for the first election they will vote in when they turn 18. [1]
