Warren School District Bond Measure (February 2011)

A Warren School District Bond Measure was on the February 8, 2011 ballot in the Warren school district area which is in Washington County.

This measure was defeated

• YES 2,194 (48.28%)
• NO 2,344 (51.72%)d

This measure sought to attempt a third time to create a bond in the amount of $74.6 million to help construct new school buildings in the district. Approximately 58 percent of the money proposed would have come from the state but since this was defeated most of that money will not be available if the district tries again. If this had been approved, a levy of 8.76 mills would have also been enacted to help pay for the non state funded portion of the bond.

Those opposed to the measure noted that the school should not keep asking for more money when residents are already struggling and cited that teachers are responsible for education and facilities have little to do with it. Though it was noted that the buildings are not in the best condition, they would have to make do with what they have. Supporters of the measure stated that those against were just voting for personal reasons and not for the greater good of the students. Facilities need to be updated so better learning can be provided for students. The school noted that even though this failed repairs still need to be done to the school so money will have to be found in the budget to implement needed repairs.
