My name is Warren Varley and I am running for the Iowa Senate. I am a family man, main street business owner, and active farmer. I am running to build an economy that rewards hard work, not just wealth and power.
    My wife Karen and I met as agriculture students at Iowa State University and returned to the family farm in Adair County after we finished our educations. We have been married for 36 years and are parents of four grown children, We are active the United Methodist Church.     
    I have more than 25 years of experience in my law practice in Stuart and running our family farm. I have served as an effective local leader in rural economic development in this district. I am active in numerous community organizations including the Stuart Library Foundation, the Adair County Farm Bureau, and many others. Trustee on the Adair County Memorial Hospital Board.

My father, Andrew Varley, who served in the Iowa Legislature for 12 years, including a term as Speaker of the Iowa House, and 10 years as chairman of the Iowa Commerce Commission, later Iowa Utilities Board, for his demonstration of self sacrifice for the betterment of the lives of Iowans and his commitment to make sound policy decisions based upon facts, empirical data, impartial reasoning, and the best available science.

Robert Ray, moderate and compassionate Governor of Iowa for 14 years.
Abraham Lincoln, for his commitment to unity over division.
Theodore Roosevelt, for his abhorrence of monopoly power and his commitment to protecting natural resources.
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. & Robert Jackson for their sound legal reasoning.

Mark Twain and Martin Luther King, Jr. for their wit, wisdom, and commitment to justice for all
My dad, Andrew Varley, was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives, Nov 8, 1966, when I turned six years old.
Working on the 6th generation family farm for my dad, Andrew Varley, as far back as I can remember. When my dad was in the Legislature, I was often the one with primary responsibilities, especially concerning the cattle. Even when I was in college and law school, my dad would call me at least once a week to discuss farm issues, particularly during the farm crisis.
