The Washington Body Cameras for Police Officers Measure, Initiative 1383 was not on the November 3, 2015 ballot in the state of Washington as an Initiative to the People. If approved by voters, the measure would have done the following:[1]

  • Required law enforcement officers to wear body cameras while on duty to record events in which the officer is involved

Initiative Measure No. 1383 concerns body cameras.

This measure would require on-duty and uniformed law enforcement officers in Washington to wear functioning body video cameras that can record events in which the law enforcement officer wearing the camera is involved.

Ballot measure summary

The ballot summary was as follows:[1]

This measure would require any on-duty and uniformed general authority Washington peace officer to wear a video camera on his or her body, in a location consistent with training, that could record events in which the peace officer wearing the camera is involved. “General authority Washington peace officer” is defined in state law as any full-time, fully compensated officer of a general authority Washington law enforcement agency who is commissioned to enforce Washington criminal laws.[2]
