The Washington Equal Parenting Time, Initiative 1402 was not on the November 3, 2015 ballot in Washington as an Initiative to the People. The measure, upon voter approval, would have provided children with an "unalienable right to substantially equal time with and the upbringing by both of their parents," unless evidence "that a parent's equal involvement is detrimental to the child's well-being" is proven.[1]

“ | This measure would give a child the right to substantially equal time with and upbringing by both parents in court-ordered parenting arrangements. The measure states that a child’s right to equal time cannot be infringed unless it is proven by a preponderance of evidence that equal involvement is detrimental to the child’s well-being. The measure would require that any order that allocates less than equal time with each parent have detailed, written findings of facts.[3] | ” |
Path to the ballot
Supporters were required to collect at least 246,372 valid signatures by July 2, 2015, in order to land the initiative on the ballot.
