Washington Limit Property Tax Increases Initiative, or I-997 was intended by its sponsors to qualify for the November 4, 2008 ballot in Washington, but did not ultimately qualify.

I-997 ould have limited tax valuation of single-family residences to their assessed value on December 31, 2005, adjusted annually for inflation, but not more than two percent higher annually.

Initiative 997 was a citizen-initiated state statute.

The official ballot measure summary was, "This measure would limit the property tax valuation of any single-family residence to its assessed value on December 31, 2005, adjusted annually for inflation based on the consumer price index. Increases could not exceed two percent over the previous year's valuation. "Single-family residence" means a single-family dwelling unit and the land it stands on. "Consumer price index" means the average consumer price index for the Seattle area compiled by the United States Department of Labor."
