Washington Presidential Preference Primaries, Initiative 99 (1989)
The Washington Presidential Preference Primaries Act, Initiative 99 was filed on April 24, 1988 as an Initiative to the Legislature by Ross E. Davis of Seattle and Joe E. Murphy of Seattle.
Davis and Murphy collected and filed 202,872 signatures, and the signatures were found to be sufficient to send the measure to the Washington State Legislature on February 6, 1989. The legislature passed the act on March 31, 1989, labeled as Chapter 4, Laws of 1989.
The question was, "Shall a state presidential preference primary election determine each presidential candidate's percentage of delegates to major party national conventions?
