The Washington Repeal the State Sales Tax Measure, Initiative 1363 was not on the November 3, 2015 ballot in the state of Washington as an Initiative to the People. If approved by voters, the measure would have done the following:[1]

  • Repealed the state retail sales tax of 6.5 percent, unless a constitutional amendment for an increase in taxes is approved by two-thirds of the legislature or two-thirds of voters

This measure would repeal the state sales tax unless the legislature refers to voters a constitutional amendment requiring two-thirds legislative approval or voter approval to raise taxes, and legislative approval for fee increases.

The ballot summary was as follows:[1]

This measure would, on April 15, 2016, repeal the state retail sales tax of 6.5%, which is imposed on most retail sales. This measure would not repeal the state sales tax if, by April 15, 2016, two-thirds of both legislative houses refer to the ballot a vote on a constitutional amendment that requires two-thirds legislative approval or voter approval to raise taxes, and majority legislative approval to set the amount of a fee increase.[2]
