Washington Initiative 173 was on the ballot as an indirect initiated state statute in Washington on November 5, 1996. It was defeated.
A "yes" vote supported this ballot initiative to create a school voucher program and allow for charter schools in Washington. Vouchers would have been provided to K-12 students for use at participating public or private schools. Each eligible student would have received a voucher worth at least 55% of the average state and local per-pupil spending. |
