Washington Referendum 34 was on the ballot as a legislatively referred state statute in Washington on November 5, 1974. It was defeated.

A “yes” vote supported establishing a state lottery.

A “no” vote opposed establishing a state lottery.


In 1974, voters approved SJR 5, which required a 60% vote on a ballot measure or in the Legislature to establish lotteries. As Referendum 34 did not receive 60% of the vote, the measure was defeated.
