The Washington State to Make Payments in Gold or Silver Coins Initiative was not on the ballot in Washington as an Initiative to the People, a type of initiated state statute, on November 7, 2017.
The measure would have required the state and local governments to receive or make payments in the form of physical gold or silver coins.[1]

This measure would provide that the state, or any subdivision, shall not receive or make any payment as defined by this measure, except by using physical gold or silver coins, as defined. Should this measure be enacted into law? Yes [ ] No [ ][2] |

“ | This measure would provide that the state of Washington, or any subdivision thereof, shall not receive or make any payment in the form of anything besides physical gold or silver coins. It would define the meaning of gold coin, silver coin, and payment, and provide for payment in an amount equal to one hundred fifty percent of the original payment if not made in gold or silver coins.[2] | ” |

Path to the ballot
In Washington, the signature requirement for Initiatives to the People is equivalent to 8 percent of the votes cast for the office of governor at the last gubernatorial election.
To make the 2017 ballot, proponents of Initiatives to the People were required to submit at least 259,622 valid signatures by July 7, 2017.[3] No signatures were turned in for the initiative by the deadline.[4]
