Washington Supreme Court Justice Charles Johnson honored
September 29, 2012
Olympia, Washington: Washington State Supreme Court Justice Charles W. Johnson has been awarded the 2012 John J. McAulay Legal Educator Award in recognition of his "'contributions to legal education [and] . . . a lifetime of dedication to the principles and ideals of integrity, compassion, courage and professional service.'" In addition to his judicial duties, Justice Johnson currently serves as a Distinguished Jurist in Residence at Seattle University School of Law. He taught constitutional law there for 15 years, and is known for his "'advocacy for expanding educational opportunities.'"[1]
Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity presented this national award to Justice Johnson at their annual district conference last week. The award is named for John J. McAulay, a Phi Alpha Delta member who was a professor at Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans for over 40 years. After McAulay's death, this award was created in his name to honor those who make significant contributions to legal education.[1]
