An effort to recall Don Borgic, Jon Carroll and Paul Schloop from the Wayland School Board in Michigan began in March 2010.[1] The recall effort did not go to a vote because organizers did not submit sufficient signatures by the deadline.
Recall supporter arguments
Mick Lane submitted petitions for the recall of Borgic, Carroll and Schloop in August 2010. Lane argued that the board members had supported privatization of custodial contracts. This decision led to the elimination of 23 custodial positions at district schools. Lane also suggested that Carroll and Borgic had engaged in unbecoming behavior during their service on the board. These accusations ranged from poor attendance by Carroll to Borgic's arguments with district residents at meetings.[2]

Recall supporters needed to gather 1,572 signatures for each recall target within 90 days of the approval of ballot language. The Allegan County Clerk approved recall language against Borgic and Carroll in early August 2010. The Clerk's Office rejected ballot language for Paul Schloop as state law prevents recalls against elected officials with terms expiring within six months of a potential recall election. The recall effort did not reach the ballot but Carroll resigned from the board in May 2012 and Borgic did not seek re-election in November 2012.[3][4]
