Christian defeated incumbent Democrat Ray Olivarri in the general election for the Bexar County Court at Law No. 6, winning 53.49% of the vote.[4]

Christian earned a B.A. in economics from Trinity University in 1975, going on to receive his J.D. from St. Mary's University in 1979.[5]

Qualifications
To serve on a county court, a judge must:[6]
- be at least 25 years old;
- be a resident of his or her respective county for at least two years; and
- have practiced law or served as a judge for at least four years preceding the election.
