Wayne Lewis (Kentucky)
Wayne D. Lewis, Jr. is the former commissioner of education in Kentucky. He was named as interim commissioner on April 17, 2018, after former Commissioner Stephen Pruitt resigned.[1] On October 3, 2018, Lewis became the permanent commissioner.[2]
Lewis resigned on December 12, 2019.[3]
Biography
At the time of his appointment, Lewis was an associate professor at the University of Kentucky. He said he would ask for leave from his university position to serve as interim commissioner. He also said he would resign from his position as a policy adviser in the education and workforce development cabinet.[1] At the time of his appointment, Lewis also served as chair of the Kentucky Charter Schools Advisory Council.[4]
