Wayne Morse (October 20, 1900 - July 22, 1974), was a member of the U.S. Senate from the state of Oregon from 1945 to 1969. He was first elected on the Republican ticket in 1944. He switched to Independent during the 83rd Congress from 1953-1954 and then switched to the Democratic Party, which he remained with during the rest of his career.[1]
