Alaska to vote on first citizen-initiated measure to establish top-four primaries

The first-ever citizen-initiated measure to establish top-four primaries, as well as the first to couple top-four primaries with ranked-choice voting, was certified for the Nov. 3 ballot in Alaska when the state legislature adjourned on May 20.

 

Californians to decide whether app-based drivers should be classified as independent contractors

Californians will decide a ballot initiative on November 3 that addresses whether app-based drivers should be classified as independent contractors. The initiative would adopt labor and wage policies specific to app-based companies, including a net earnings floor (a minimum hourly income standard), healthcare subsidies, and occupational accident insurance for workers.

 

King defeated in IA-04 primary; Greenfield, Gianforte win statewide primaries in Iowa, Montana

Here are some of the results from the June 2nd elections:

  • Iowa’s 4th District: (R) State Sen. Randy Feenstra defeated Rep. Steve King in the Republican primary for Iowa's 4th Congressional District.
  • Iowa U.S. Senate: Theresa Greenfield defeated three other candidates to win the Democratic primary for Iowa’s U.S. Senate seat.
  • Montana Governor: U.S. Rep. Greg Gianforte defeated Attorney General Tim Fox and state Sen. Al Olszewski to win Montana’s Republican gubernatorial primary.
