Our list includes 12 officeholders who acted in TV shows or movies and eight unsuccessful candidates for office who were also actors. Chief Justice Roberts was the lone dissenter for the first timeThe court issued an 8-1 opinion in a case concerning whether nominal damages claims provide legal standing in federal cases. Roberts filed a dissenting opinion, concluding that nominal damages claims are not a sufficient basis for legal standing in a federal case. Twelve states sue Biden administration over emissions executive orderThe states alleged that the administration violated the separation of powers in a Jan. 20 executive order. The order called on agencies to account for the social cost of greenhouse emissions in their analyses. Previewing Louisiana's 2nd Congressional District special electionFifteen candidates—eight Democrats, four Republicans, two Independents, and one Libertarian—are running for the seat on March 20. Louisiana elections use a majority vote system in which all candidates compete in the same primary. An update on the effort to recall California’s governor one week from deadlineRecall organizers announced they had turned in more than 1.9 million signatures to the secretary of state's office as of March 3. In the most recent reporting period, ending Feb. 5, the secretary of state had reviewed 798,310 signatures and deemed 668,202 of those (84%) valid.
