Wendy Friedrich
Wendy Friedrich was a 2014 Libertarian candidate for District 5 of the Wisconsin State Senate.[1]
Campaign themes
2014
Friedrich's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]
The Constitution
- Excerpt: "I don't pick and choose the amendments that seem most convenient. I wouldn't mind seeing another amendment for term limits. We don't need career politicians."
Income Tax
- Excerpt: "As a Libertarian, I would like to see taxes severely reduced, and at some point in the future hopefully eliminated. It would certainly help slow the brain drain."
Medical Marijuana and Hemp
- Excerpt: "Legalize medical cannabis so that patients have a safe place to go to get their medicine. In addition to that, decriminalize possession of small amounts for all citizens, and legalize hemp. Hemp alone would create many new industries (food, clothing, hempcrete), and help protect the environment. It doesn't get people "high" yet it is still illegal. Why? People should go to prison when they injure others (including animals), not when they make a personal choice about what they do with their own bodies. Let's get some honest dialogue going. Shouldn't we be standing up for one another's freedoms? Giving citizens back their rights as human beings is the sensible and fiscally responsible thing to do."
Universal Health Care
- Excerpt: "Nobody should be forced by the government to purchase any product. Nobody should end up in prison due to NOT purchasing a product (which is what will happen if someone accumulates enough "fines" without paying up). People should be able to shop insurance across state lines as well. Hospitals and doctors offices should post their prices so that people can shop around more easily."
Gay Marriage
- Excerpt: "People deserve equal rights. Government should stay out of marriage (it is a religious issue) but should protect civil unions for ALL people. Otherwise it is discrimination."
