Wendy Sue Johnson completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Johnson's responses.
What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
Non-partisan redistricting would allow voters to choose their representatives, thus making us more accountable, responsive, and willing to compromise on most other issues. Wisconsin needs to fix the school funding formula so that it is equitable for all students regardless of zip code. We need an economy that works for everyone, not primarily for the wealthy and corporations.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
As a plaintiff in the Whitford gerrymandering lawsuit and a former civics teacher, I am passionate about fixing the system so that democracy works.
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?
Anyone interested in understanding the intentional plan to rig the system must read Ratf**ked by David Daley. You will be outraged.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Public officials should be honest, direct, sincere, informed, decisive, and independent.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My first job was at McDonald's when minimum wage was $3.35 an hour and you had to be persistent to get hired. I learned to work hard, attend to the needs of others and the importance of effective systems.
