She was appointed to the court effective November 13, 2019, by Gov. Tim Walz (D) to replace Joanne Turner. She was elected to serve as chief judge of the court effective March 17, 2021.[1] Tien left office 2025.[2]

Education

Tien earned a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1989 and a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1993.[1]
