Burns ran for election to the 37th Judicial District.
Primary: He was defeated in the primary on November 4, 2014, receiving 24.1 percent of the vote. He competed against Ashley Paul Thomas.

Education
Burns received a B.S. in animal science from Louisiana Tech University in 1994 and a J.D. from Southern University Law Center in 2004.[3]
Career
Burns runs a private law practice and is a council member for the Village of Grayson.[3]
